Sad Day for Steeler Fans

A couple of days ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers notified Hines Ward that he was going to be released. The main reason for the Steelers organization making this decision is because they need to clear salary cap space in order to resign younger players. Hines Ward is not only one of the best receivers in Steelers history but in NFL history. During his 14 year career he had 1000 catches, 12,083 receiving yards and 85 touchdowns. Certainly a first ballot Hall of Fame player in my eyes. The fans and the city are sad to see him go but in the end it is a business and they need to clear salary cap space. Hines Ward will always be a good role model to kids and a service to his community. Steeler Nation has best wishes for Hines Ward. We will miss you!

  1. Ward is one of the greatest Steelers of all time, but the strength of the organization is knowing when to let its greats go. This is true for Franco Harris all the way to Greg Lloyd and now Hines Ward. Although he is a great player and leader, his skills have become greatly diminished and he no longer contributed up to the level of his contract. I am sad to see him go, but as a fan, realize that it was a completely necessary move.

  2. He was a great player and had made many fans with the Steelers but they defiently made a good move. He really under produced this year and who knows how he would have done this year. He's getting to old for all this new great talent coming into the game.
